Rutland – John E. Hier
John E. Hier 70, died peacefully with his daughter and brother at his side, Thursday October 23, 2025 at Rutland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.
He was born August 21, 1955 in Rutland the eldest son of Richard and Jean (Loomis) Hier.
John was a graduate of Rutland High School and furthered his education at Castleton State College.
He enjoyed bowling, golf and traveling. He spent many years working at Allen pools and Spas and started his own water hauling business.
Survivors are his daughter Mallory Stunell, his brother Chris Hier and several aunts’ nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Richard S. Hier.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday November 5, 2025 from 4-6 P.M. at Clifford Funeral Home. Located at 2 Washington Street, Rutland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday November 6, 2025 at 10 A.M. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Rutland, with the Rev. Richard Crawley as the celebrant.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rutland County Humane Society at 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.
