John "Joe" Hindman

Anderson, SC – John Joseph Hindman, 90, husband of the late JoAndre "Boots" Honea Hindman, passed away peacefully Friday, August 8, 2025, at his home. Born in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late Norwood Kenneth Hindman and Audrey Caldwell Hindman Stewart. Joe was a 1953 graduate of Anderson Boys High School, a graduate of Erskine College, earned a master's degree from the University of Georgia and a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a high school band director and later joined the Lander College Music faculty. He also performed professionally as a musician and operated a piano tuning business. Survivors include three sons, John J. Hindman, Jr., David A. Hindman (Melanie), and Patrick T. Hindman (Marie); three granddaughters, Lauren Hindman, Morgan Hindman, and Jillian Hindman; and a sister, Martha Hindman Gregory. A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 17, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens conducted by Dr. Jack Couch.
