John "Jack" Humphreys, 84, of Mount Morris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was born on February 9, 1941, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to John and Esther (Bergstrom) Humphreys.
Jack was a devoted husband, proud father, and beloved grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. On February 2, 1962, he married the love of his life, Kathy (Reid), his soulmate since the age of 15. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their journey took them through Syracuse, New York; Hastings, Minnesota; Antioch, Illinois; and State College, Pennsylvania, before settling in Illinois to be close to the family they cherished most.
A gifted athlete, Jack excelled in basketball through high school and played football throughout college-eventually earning a spot, albeit briefly, with the Green Bay Packers. His passion for sports never faded. He coached football with pride and followed his children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's athletic pursuits with unwavering dedication, rarely missing a game-or requesting full play-by-plays if he had to.
Jack was happiest surrounded by his family-whether at home, on vacation in the Outer Banks or Florida, or during his treasured fishing trips to Canada with his sons. He loved golf, hunting, card games, and cheering for his Packers on Sundays. He never turned down a great steak or a home-cooked meal-especially anything lovingly prepared by his Kathy.
Jack's legacy lives on in his five children: Anne (Mark) Johnson, Gina (David) Rothweiler, John (Kim) Humphreys, Matt (Jenny) Humphreys, and Mary (Dan) Fleeger; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Terry (Iris) Humphreys; sisters-in-law Melanie Stingl and Lisa Lingle; his dear cousin Mary Jo Poulson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death just three weeks ago by his beloved wife, Kathy, his dear son-in-law Dan Fleeger, his sister Lynn Conforti, and his parents.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Plescia, Serenity Hospice, and the compassionate team at Allure of Pinecrest Terrace for the exceptional care they provided to Jack in his final days.
Jack's strength, loyalty, and quiet kindness touched everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and family first-a life well lived, and deeply loved.
