It is with both sadness and celebration that we announce the passing of John A. Hurd, born on October 29, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan. John peacefully departed this world on July 2, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.
John dedicated a significant part of his life to the United States military, serving with distinction in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard as an RMC E-7. His commitment to safeguarding our freedoms and protecting his country exemplified the values he held dear throughout his life. After an honorable discharge on July 1, 1974, John continued to inspire others with his steadfast dedication to duty and his unwavering spirit.
His wife, Sallie Ruth Hurd, and his beloved son, Danny Hurd, cherished him deeply and will forever carry his memory in their hearts. John is also survived by three stepsons and one stepdaughter. He was a man of integrity, warmth, and undeniable charm, whose laughter and love touched everyone he encountered. His family, friends, and all who knew him are better for having shared in his life, and they will remember him with fondness and joy.
John was preceded in death by his father, Clark Hurd; his mother, Evelyn Sybeldon Hurd; two stepsons; two brothers; and a sister.
In accordance with his wishes, John has been cremated, and his family invites all who knew and loved him to join in remembering the extraordinary man that he was.
