John Intelisano Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stitzel Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc - Reading on Mar. 1, 2024.
John Intelisano, 93, formerly of Laureldale and Muhlenberg Township, died February 29, 2024 at Berks Heim, where he had been a resident for a number of years.
He was the widower of Rosemarie (Clemente) Intelisano, who died April 18, 2013. They shared 62 years of marriage.
Born March 13, 1930, in Reading, he was a son of the late Giovanni and Vincenza (LaFlacca) Intelisano.
John was very proud to have earned his GED from Reading High School in 1968.
He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.
John spoke fondly of his childhood days in West Leesport, where he was affectionately referred to as a "Dutch WOP."
He was employed with Glidden Paint Works, Riverside, for 18 years. During that time, he founded Intel's Sandwich Shop, Laureldale, which he operated for 35 years, retiring in 1990. As a 'people person' this was a business he truly enjoyed; he loved getting to know his customers and talking with them regularly. After retirement, John worked at Reading Hospital, in numerous capacities, with his favorite position having been in the morgue as an autopsy assistant.
A man who wore many hats, John enjoyed photography in his younger years, owned his own flower shop; ran cruises to Bermuda for over 25 years, and was the volunteer coordinator at ManorCare, Laureldale for 5 years. He also enjoyed traveling to his cabin in Morris, Tioga County, with family and friends.
Making others happy was John's greatest pleasure. He would talk to anyone just to put a smile on their face. He enjoyed doing so through volunteer work, which he did at ManorCare, Laureldale, for 15 years and Reading Hospital for 6 years.
Surviving are his four children: Bonita A., widow of Ronald R. Shingle of Muhlenberg Township; John R., husband of Melissa A. Intelisano of Tilden Township; Gary S., husband of Linda G. Intelisano of Alsace Township; and Gina M., wife of Randy S. Gilbert of Muhlenberg Township.
In addition, John is survived by his nine grandchildren: Michelle Heckman; Dena Kraus; Steven Shingle Jenny Maurer, Erin Stacherski, Michael Intelisano, Julie Sansary, Elizabeth Candelori, and Jeffrey Gilbert.
There are also 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his seven siblings: Santo Intelisano, Carmella (Intelisano) Rottino, Anna (Intelisano) Mollica, Guy Intelisano, Josephine (Intelisano) Shuman, Rose M. (Intelisano) Shade, and Jennie Intelisano.
To know him was to love him, and he will be missed by many.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading.
Viewings will be held Tuesday, March 5th from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 9-10 at Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Burial will follow the mass at Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.

What a great and pleasant man. And what a full life. I used to talk to him often at the sandwich shop in Laureldale. My condolences and comfort to the Intelisano family.
