John Isom Obituary

John W. "Bill" Isom
10/12/1945 - 08/12/2025
John W. "Bill" Isom passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025 in Austin, Texas. Born October 12, 1945, Bill grew up in Tyler, Texas, where he split his time between books, ballgames, and adventures outside. He was a proud graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler, Columbia University, and the University of Oklahoma. What mattered most to him weren't the diplomas, but the friendships and memories that came with them.
Bill spent much of his professional life as a geophysicist and then as a financial advisor in Midland, Texas. Whether analyzing rocks or retirement accounts, he was steady, thoughtful, and practical. Those who knew Bill will fondly remember him as an avid outdoorsman. His passion for hunting, fishing, and jeeping in the wilderness was more than a hobby but a way of life that he shared with his family and friends.
Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Linda Bandsma Isom and Pamela Lindley Isom, whose memories he held close to his heart. He is survived by his children-Patrick and Shannon Isom, Christie Isom and Scott Grant, Libby and Kevin Schanzmeyer, and Matt and Amy Gilmore-and by nine grandchildren, who were his greatest joy.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to Synergy Homecare of Round Rock for their loving care and support over the last years. Memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association or a charity of your choice.
