Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buxton & Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home and Crematory on Oct. 1, 2025.
John Hardee Johnson, of Okeechobee Florida passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2025, alongside his beloved daughter, Keyana Johnson. He was 44 years old, but his energy could've fooled you into thinking he was in his 20's, especially when cracking jokes, singing Sleep Token off-key in the shower or chasing sunsets like a teenager in love with life.
Born to Rebecca Burdick-Johnson and Roy Johnson in Okeechobee Florida, John spent his life as a Floridian, building a name for himself as a skilled mechanic, fiercely loyal friend, and a guy who could fix absolutely anything- except the heartbreak we all feel now that he's gone.
John was a die-hard Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, regardless of if they were winning or losing, he always believed "this was the year". He was known for his sarcasm, wild sense of humor, and kind of laugh that filled a room and stayed with you long after. He was passionate about working out, cooked like a chef (or at least claimed to) and never turned down the chance to go to the beach or have a competitive family game night.
But more than anything, John loved being a dad. His kids were his whole entire world, and he poured every ounce of himself into them. He wasn't just a father, he was their cheerleader, protector, best friend- and a real life superhero.
Each one of his children carries part of him:
Keyana (22) Fiercely protective, strong-willed, and full of love, they shared an unshakable bond built on matching dry humor, big hearts, and a spirited sense of competition. Their connection only grew deeper through the moments they treasured most, whether it was singing along at concerts, relaxing by the beach, or simply enjoying time together as a family.
Damien (19) Understanding always and has John's calm strength and quiet loyalty. He leads with integrity and heart, and has always stepped up to the plate for the people he loves- just like his dad did. They both hold the same passion for anything thrilling and would always "try anything once."
Evan (16) Kind and is John's mini me. They shared a love of all things football, but especially the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, delicious food, and music, specifically heavy metal. He carries with him Johns fierce independence and fearlessness.
Hailey (11) Rambunctious personality twin of John's. Her sharp wit, comedic timing, and clever sass are all her dad, and she keeps everyone laughing, just like he did. They both shared a love thrifting and flea market trips every weekend.
Mason (8) Empathetic and has his dad's hidden gem of tenderness, and depth. The bear of the family, he loves big and feels so deeply. They found joy together in playing video games and movie nights, having quality son and dad time.
Averie (5) Lively as she is the baby of family, full of energy, light and joy. Our mini sunshine, dancing through life
with the same spark John brought to every moment. They both adore all things spooky, scary movies and cuddles.
John is survived by his father, Roy Johnson; aunt, Cindy Biegel (John's second mom); younger children Hailey, Mason and Averie, and their mother, Arielle; older sons, Damien and Evan; host of extended family including: uncles, Scott Burdick, Mark Burdick, and Donald Burdick; cousins, Juan Burdick (Ira) and Lisa Thompson; as well as many friends, who became family over the years.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Johnson; sister, Elizabeth Johnson; paternal grandparents, Lois Johnson and Daniel "Doc" Johnson; maternal grandmother, Edith Burdick; and walked through the gates of the other side with his beloved daughter, Keyana Johnson. Together they're probably practicing how to haunt people, and arguing over who won the last game of Clue (spoiler- Keyana won).
John was the kind of person you don't forget. The kind that leaves fingerprints on your soul. The kind that makes you laugh through your tears, and man, are there a lot of tears right now. Our hearts will forever be touched
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 2 pm at Ever After Farms Stockyard (8900 NE 12th Lane.) In lieu of flowers, Ever After Farms has created a donation fund to help with expenses for both John and Keyana.
We will miss him every single day, but his voice, his jokes, his love and his legacy will live on. In every single sunset, every Buccs game, and every smile on his children's faces.
