John Edward Johnson was born November 17, 1939 at the family homestead in Lamoille, Iowa. He was the youngest of four children born to Fred and Viola (Strawbridge) Johnson. John attended school in Lamoille through 11th grade before going to West Marshall his senior year and graduating with the Class of 1957. He was drafted in the United States Army in 1963 and served his country until being honorably discharged from service.

On August 10, 1974, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet Hanson at the Union Church of Christ. They made their home together in Union, Iowa and raised their son, Jeremy. John held many hats over the years. He began working as a banker for Union/Whitten State Savings Bank for many years. In addition, he also ran his own farm which was his true passion. He took a venture with driving trucks for Stanfield Trucking.

Outside of work and family time, John was an active member in the Union Community. He spent many years as a township trustee, was a member of the Lamoille Congregational Church, American Legion Post 255 of Union, was a member of the Masonic Temple and the Iowa Bankers Association. In his free time, he loved the outdoors and spent free time hunting and fishing and riding in “The Beast.”

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Janet Johnson; his son, Jeremy (Shannon) Johnson; brother James (Sharon) Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Jessie Kaisand and John (Glenda) Hanson; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

In eternal life, John rejoins his parents Fred and Viola Johnson and his siblings, Charles (Jean) Johnson and Herbert (Lola) Johnson.
