John, more often called Jack, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, at Prairie Meadows Memory Care in Kasson, MN. He was born on Valentine's Day, 1942, in Mountain Lake, MN, to John P. and Mildred Jungas where he was welcomed by sisters Barb and Lois. Jack spent nearly his entire life in the community he loved, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Jack married the love of his life, Becky Lidfors, and together they built a beautiful life of 58 years filled with love, faith, and family. They were blessed with two daughters, Kristin Smith (Kevin) and Karna Hagen (Dave), who, along with their families, brought Jack immense joy. He was a proud grandfather to Evan (Faith), Alex (Nicole), Madison, and Cole (Meghan), and great-grandfather to Ava, with another great-grandchild on the way.
A graduate of Mountain Lake High School and Gustavus Adolphus College, Jack carried on his family's legacy as the owner of Jungas Hardware from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. His dedication to the community was evident through his involvement in the Rotary Club and Community Development Corporation. Jack was also a member of the Minnesota National Guard. A man of deep faith, he was a lifelong believer in Jesus as his Savior and Lord and a member of Bethel Mennonite Church.
Jack had a passion for life's simple joys-camping and traveling, collecting model trains, cheering for his beloved Minnesota Vikings, indulging in anything chocolate, and tending to the family's hobby farm for 40 years. He also found great happiness in singing with the Gustavus Choir and thoroughly loved listening to his wife's music.
Jack's kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and community will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law Henry & Elizabeth Lidfors; sisters and brothers-in-law - Barb & Lee Loewen and Lois & Jim Marston; and Becky's siblings John and MaryBeth Lidfors. He is survived by his loving wife, his daughters and their families, his sister-in-law Bernice (Rod), many nieces/nephews, and other loved ones.
A celebration of Jack's life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 301 9th St N in Mountain Lake, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN.
