John G. Lalanas, 76 of Neptune, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on June 18th, 2023.
John was born January 12,1947 in Jersey City, NJ and graduated from Dickinson High School and from Brookdale Community College with an Associate's Degree in Photography. He and his wife Susan moved to Neptune in 1972 and raised two children, John and Kristen. John spent his career working for NJ Bell/Verizon and retired in 2002. He then went on to be a full-time bus driver for the Neptune Senior Center, just recently retiring.
John loved helping people, he was an active member of the Hamilton First Aid Squad for over 40 years. He held many leadership positions over that time and was just recently voted in as Vice President after Hamilton merged into the Shark River Hills First Aid Squad.
John also had a passion for photography, he was an active member of the Monmouth County Camera Club for many years. He actively participated in photo contests and published a picture book of the fishing pier in Ocean Grove.
John also has a strong belief in his faith, he and his wife were long time members of the Glendola Bible Church, serving as a deacon and are now active members of the Community Bible Church in Shark River Hills.
John was a very warm, friendly and incredibly kind person. He was the first person to help a neighbor with a project around the house or to clean their driveway after a storm. He loved children, he would graciously dress up as Santa at Christmas for his children, nieces and nephew and he and his wife would secretly hide little presents for the neighbors children for all holidays. Aside from his own children and grandchildren, one of his greatest joys was the experience of delivering a baby on a first aid call, he was very proud of that experience.
John is predeceased by his mother and father, Anna and George. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 52 years, his son and his wife, John and Kristen and their two children, John Jr. and Charlotte, and his daughter Kristen and her husband Ian.
Services will be held at Ely Funeral Home, Neptune, NJ on Thursday, June 22 4-8pm (memorial service to start at 7pm). In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.

As a senior from Ocean Grove, I got to know John at the Senior Center. He was a driver and took seniors shopping and from home to the Center. He was one of the kindest people who I have ever known. He adored his grandchildren! He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. With deepest sympathy, Noreen Davidsen
