John Joseph "Jack" Like, 71, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, passed away peacefully at 5:45 a.m. on Thursday August 22, 2024 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.
Jack was born on Saturday, May 2, 1953, in Martinsville, Indiana. He was a 1971 graduate of Martinsville High School. Jack loved working in public service as he served in many roles from 1975 until his brief retirement in 2019. Jack's public service roles included volunteer firefighter for Washington Township Fire Department, reserve officer and 911 dispatcher for the Morgan County Sheriff's Department and the Martinsville Police Department. Jack returned to serve as a 911 dispatcher at the Morgan County Public Safety Dispatch for several years after his retirement until he served his final role as an administrative clerk for the Martinsville Police Department.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Lynn "Kim" (Sheeks) Like, whom he married on August 8, 1987; son, Evan Glenn Like and significant other Nicole Trujillo; mother-in-law, Beverly Sheeks; siblings, Richard Like and wife Felicia and Valerie Suzann "Sue" Johnson and husband Dave; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Cheryl Sheeks; nieces, Shelby Mader and Amber Rivers and husband Ean; nephews, Richard Like and wife Michelle, Jason Like, Grant Rivers and Sean Rivers.
Jack was an avid dog lover and a beloved "dog dad" to boxers Roxie and Sofie.
Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Cindy (Giles) Holter; grandparents, James and Mildred Giles and James and Geneva Maxwell; uncle, Donald Giles; father-in-law, Glenn Sheeks.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Costin Funeral Chapel with Chaplain George Watson officiating. Visitation will be at the chapel on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be at New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville.
