John "Jack" Long

John (Jack) Long Jr. age 79 of Neptune, passed away on Friday, December 22nd with his loving family by his side at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was born in Long Branch and grew up in Lincroft where he met his loving wife Linda. Married for 59 years, they began their life in Neptune where they raised their 3 children: Daughter Karen (Domenick) Salvemini, Daughter Laura (Lance) Simek, and son Michael (Melanie) Long. He loved being Grandpa to his 7 grandchildren and Poppy to his 3 great grandchildren. Jack is also survived by his brother Jim Long and his wife Gail, his sister Kathy Evans, his sister-in-law Carol Axford, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jack worked for 51 years as a letter carrier at the Lincroft Post Office where he established wonderful friendships that continued well beyond his retirement. He enjoyed playing sports in his spare time but will probably be best remembered for the many years of being a pitcher on several softball teams along the Jersey Shore. His love of sports also included watching his favorite teams the Yankees, Jets and Florida State. After retiring he had more time to enjoy his love of auto racing, fishing, and horse racing and also regularly enjoyed frequenting local restaurants with his wife, family and friends. He was a wonderful man to so many people and he will forever be loved and will never be forgotten. A Celebration of Life in his honor will be held at a later date
