John Benjamin Lovett, Sr. was born on August 23, 1944, in New Brunswick, NJ to the late Aurelius Lovett Sr. and Jessie Mae Lovett. Jesus welcomed John B. Lovett home on April 15, 2024. He served as Trustee at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church in Edison, NJ 08820, and the Middle Atlantic Conference of the NY Metro Area. His secondary office of service where he served as an usher was at Mt. Zion. He did continuous missionary work with his late wife, ThD. Gloria Lovett, (Doctorate of Theology).
On August 28, 1965, Trustee John B. Lovett, Sr. and ThD. Gloria Lovett were married at Mt. Zion Freewill Baptist Church. Afterwards, they settled down in Edison, NJ and later moved to Rahway, NJ. Their Holy Matrimony birthed seven children, four boys and three girls: the first two being fraternal twins. John B. Lovett Sr., used his God given abilities to better the life of his family. Those gifts were and not limited to these: excellent provider, protector, dedicated father, putting others first, unsearchable love, strong work ethic, and gentleness. John B. Lovett Sr. was a loving Grandfather and Great Grandfather. He enjoyed playing games, watching TV, amusement parks, restaurants, and beaches with those who he loved. His favorite foods were rice (do not mess up his rice), peanut butter and jelly mixed in the jar crumbled with bread, burnt toast, corn flakes, and he loved to drink ice water while laying on his stomach watching TV.
His famous one-liners were, "A hot mess." when his children would do something that did not make sense. "Hot to Johnny Moe" whenever he messed up. He was famous for burping then calling himself a pig. The thing he enjoyed a lot was spearheading the Lovett Family Reunion at Rahway Park. He would say, "IT'S HISTORY TIME."
John B. Lovett, Sr was predeceased by his wife, ThD. Gloria Lovett; his parents Aurelius Lovett Sr. and Jessie Mae Lovett; his twelve siblings: Robert Lovett, Hebert F. Lovett, Joseph Lovett, Douglas Lovett, Elder Aurelius Lovett Jr., Alice Bryant, Marie Lovett, Hattie Phillips, Clementine Adams, Emily Thomas, Jean Barbara (deceased at age 3) and another sister (stillborn, name unknown).
John B. Lovett, Sr. leaves to mourn his five children. John B. Lovett, Jr. (friend Pam), Acquinetta Lovett-Smallwood (Derrick), Lafayette Lovett (Melinda), Elder Anthony Lovett, Tiasha Lovett. Fourteen grandchildren: Juaneata Leyna Morales (Alfredo), Jasmine Smith, Melisha Calving (Chris), Andrew Adams (friend Sharonda), Lafayette R. Dulaney-Lovett, John Lovett III, Malcolm Lovett, Nyla Smith, Nefritiri Angelica Lovett, Malina-Joelle Parham (Marcus), Jaquil Lovett, Jaquan Lovett, Adonaisha Adams, and Larae-Nia Jessie Lovett. Dad - It was difficult to spend time with you at the gravesite on Father's Day because I am still grieving. I miss you so much! You were my buddy. I just want to say that you were the best dad in the world. I will never forget how much you loved all your kids, and how you were always there for us and sacrificed to make sure that we did not go without. You will never, ever, be forgotten. I love you with my whole heart. - Your favorite daughter, Acquinetta
