John Luck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Osborn Funeral Home - Shreveport on Dec. 31, 2025.
John Franklin Luck, Jr. died after a brief illness on December 30, 2025, in Shreveport, Louisiana. A memorial service will be held on January 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., at East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport, La, followed by a celebration of life until 7:00 p.m.

John was born April 3, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Polly Harper Luck and John Franklin Luck. He was the youngest of five children, and is survived by his four older sisters, Rev. Jacqueline Luck, Linda Luck Crawford, Rebecca Luck Graham, and Susan Luck Duhon. He graduated from Captain Shreve High School, where he was on the golf team that won the state championship. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University where he made lifelong friendships with his Kappa Sig brothers. While at Tech, he met the love of his life, Sheryl Rogers Luck, with whom he recently celebrated his fifty-year anniversary. After college, John became a successful appraiser and founded LuckCo, where he managed real estate, and built a wonderful crew of employees.

John was a loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife Sheryl; his children, Rachel Luck Africk (Nate) of New Orleans and Dr. John Benjamin Luck (Ashley) of Ashland, Oregon; his four grandchildren, Harper Africk, Samuel Africk, Aria Luck and Theo Luck. "Pop" loved visiting his children and grandchildren in New Orleans and Ashland. He is also survived by his goddaughter, Annie Flettrich Laroque, and many nieces and nephews. He loved his dogs and was preceded in death by his favorite dog, Annie, and is survived by his slightly less favorite dog Wilson. He never met a dog, or a person for that matter, that was a stranger.

John's favorite place in the world was his lake house on Toledo Bend. He loved to sit and watch the birds and loved to be able to identify all the species. He loved to fish (although his family suspects he might have just been reading his book in the boat), and he always had a project going. He was a prolific maker of soup and always seemed to have something simmering on the stove. John loved his friends and family fiercely and was known for his willingness to help anyone. He will be forever loved and missed.

In lieu of flowers, please send cash. (Just kidding, but John would have really loved that line). John would be honored by a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
