John Edward Lynes, 74, of Leominster, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2025. Born on November 13, 1950, in Boston, Massachusetts, John grew up in the vibrant Mission Hill area of Roxbury, where he built lifelong friendships.
A proud veteran, John served courageously in the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. After his service, he dedicated much of his career to the Boston Globe, where he worked as a skilled pressman, ensuring the daily news reached countless readers. As a proud union official, John passionately advocated for his fellow workers, leaving a legacy of fairness and camaraderie in the workplace.
An avid traveler, John explored over 40 countries, embracing new cultures and sharing stories of his adventures. Known for his resilience, warm storytelling, and being the best joke teller who always captivated his audience with laughter, John brought a unique spark to every gathering. His steadfast devotion to his family touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his beloved children: Colleen O'Brien of Plymouth, Massachusetts, John Lynes Jr. of Thompsons Station, Tennessee, and Stephanie Lynes of Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as his sister, Poppy Lynes of Lynn, Massachusetts, and his brother, Thomas Lynes of Somerville, Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his son, T.J. Lynes of Holbrook, Massachusetts. John's legacy continues through his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who filled his life with immense joy and pride.
A period of visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court St., Plymouth, MA 02360, a memorial service will begin at 1 pm, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM at the Plymouth VFW, 22 Seven Hills Rd., Plymouth, MA 02360. John's strength, humor, and love for his family will be forever cherished.
