Dr. John "Jack" Hobbs, Jr., age 81, of DeWitt, formerly of Klamath Falls, Oregon passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Sparrow Clinton Hospital, St. Johns, Michigan. A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 E. First North St., Laingsburg, Michigan 48848. Pastor Andy Croel will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of service.
Jack, as he was affectionately called, was born July 1, 1941 in Flint, Michigan to John M. Hobbs, Sr. and Gladys (Craig) Hobbs. Following his graduation from high school he married Judy Wauvle in the mid 60's. Together they moved to Louisiana, where Jack attended Tulane University to study medicine. They returned to Michigan to reside in the Detroit area while he served his residency. He served many communities throughout his life as an OB/GYN. He moved to Klamath Falls, OR and worked as a physician and eventually became a police officer and was a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit. One thing is for sure, Jack had an adventurous spirit but always kept his feet firmly planted on the ground. He had a passion for big game and rattlesnake hunting, as well as antiquing for unique prints. He participated in both softball and football leagues while in Oregon. It has been said, he is exceptional at finding the perfect gift you never knew you really wanted or needed and he was always thoughtful of others with sending a special card or note to help you celebrate an achievement or an anniversary. Jack was no stranger to hard work and knew that having a purpose and a skill to serve others meant a true fulfillment in his own life. If you were lucky enough to have known Jack ~ then you will know he lived his life on his terms and had a giant heart and a gracious spirit and he will be missed beyond measure. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the relationships he fostered within his own lifetime.
Jack is lovingly survived by his family to include three children; Jill Hobbs, John (Rida Chin) Hobbs, III, and Julie (Douglas) Miller, his grandchildren; Emalee Hobbs, Drake Miller and Danielle Miller, his sisters-in-law: Sandra Reese and Lena Hobbs, his ex-wife and friend; Judy Blackledge, his many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in Alabama and many friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents; John and Gladys Hobbs, Sr. and his brothers; Frank Carpenter and William "Bill" Hobbs.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Klamath Falls Police Beneficiary Association, 2501 Shasta Way, Klamath Falls, OR 97601-4355, to support those who serve others.

My siblings and I are very sorry to miss uncle Jacks celebration of life. He was so thoughtful and always remembered my late parents birthday and would email a sweet message. He came to see my dad before he died and my father was so appreciative. I would have loved to hear more stories about him and his time as " doctor cop". My heart goes out to his immediate family and all who loved him.

I am so saddened to hear of uncle Jack passing away. We had come up to Michigan recently for another funeral and had emailed him and left a voice mail wanting to visit with him while we were there. His caring nature was the essence of his soul and people like uncle Jack just don´t come into your life very often. Our condolences to his family. We have made a contribution to the Klamath Falls Police Beneficiary Assoc. in his memory. Sylvia and John Phillips

I've had the wonderful pleasure of having Dr. Jack Hobbs as my brother in law. Jack always keep in touch by calling, texting, or sending cards. He always sends me a birthday card every year from the time me met me. I am forever grateful for knowing him and what an amazing person he is. May his soul rest in peace. My sympathy goes out to his children and the rest of the family. Praying for everyone during this difficult time

Dr Hobbs delivered 4 of my 6 babies. I went to him with a high risk pregnancy and he let me dictate our course of action. He saved that baby´s life by listening to my concerns. After being unable to get a tubaligation after my 5th daughter I jokingly said "if I get pregnant again, it´s on you"! Six weeks after my son was born he sent a card and a check for all my copayments and wrote "This one´s on me!". I never knew a more compassionate doctor who cared so much about his patients. With my history and the loss of my first baby at birth, Dr Hobbs made sure we monitored each pregnancy closely after other doctors refused to listen to me. He made himself available by phone even when he was on vacation or not on call. I will forever be grateful to him. May he rest in peace, a life well lived!!!!!!!
