John Joseph Marsala, 85 of Long Beach New York, passed away on December 5th 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in New York City on July 25th 1940, John was known for his generosity, strength, and possessed a strong work ethic. He started out as a laborer in the construction industry and helped build the General Motors Building. Over the years he was the ultimate solo entrepreneur; he opened a clothing store in Brooklyn; he bought and sold antiques and eventually moved to Long Island and began working at an automotive shop. He built up his former transportation business with many taxi cabs and a repair shop to maintain them. He was his own man and the "boss" to so many.
John married his former wife Gloria when they were teenagers and had three children, Debra, John, and Gloria. He was the cherished grandfather "Poppa" to Gina, Amanda, Elena, Katie and Johnny and great grandfather of Angelina, Anthony, Tyler, Sarah, Kennedy, Kaia, and Aliyah. He is survived by his sister Lois Horl. John was preceded in death by his beloved brother Joseph, and sisters Annie, "Caddy", and Rosie.
Outside of work, John enjoyed collecting fine art, watches and coins. On the simple side, he loved buttered rolls, light coffee with half and half, Rice Krispies, and pineapples with orange juice.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday & Thursday, December 10th and 11th, from 2-4pm and 6-9pm at the Christopher T. Jordan Funeral home in Island Park, New York. The Funeral Mass will be held on December 12th 2025 at 9:15am at Sacred Heart Church, 282 Long Beach Road, Island Park, NY 11558. The burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery located at 72-02 Astoria Blvd. South, East Elmhurst, New York 11370.
