John Scott Martin 76 of Brownwood passed away February 18, 2026. He was born to Robert and Annetta Rae (Jones) Martin Jr., on August 29, 1949,
Baytown, Texas.
He and his family lived on their ranch in Bryan, Texas until he was 7 years old. The family then moved to Houston. Scott joined the Marine Corps and served 18 months in Vietnam. He was wounded twice and received a Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Stars along with numerous other citations including a Silver Star and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After leaving the military he joined his father and brother in the family business. Then he began a career in Law Enforcement which lasted over 30 years. He taught the DARE program for several years and loved working with the kids.
Scott was married several times until he found the love of his life Wanda Sue Thacker and was proud to welcome in his family three stepdaughters Stacee Hetzel, Carrie Walters and Krissi Prince. Scott first marriage was to Janice Brewer, they had one son John Martin Jr., his second marriage was to Kathy Bauer, they had one son James Scott Martin. Scott and his third wife Laura Faye Jenkins didn't have any children, he had a special friend Judy Bolton for 8 years but never married.
Scott was especially proud of his two sons and their families, along with the men his stepdaughters married.
He enjoyed calling BINGO and talking with the customers. Several years ago, he joined Heartland Cruisers and enjoyed the friendship they gave him. He also enjoyed the Rodeo life where he participated in Steer wrestling, Scott loved to do woodwork, cook some good BBQ, and he loved making things for his family and friends. He will be missed by his wonderful dog, Tex.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Wanda Sue Martin, his sons John Scott Martin, Jr., and wife Karyn of Lindale, Texas, James Scott Martin and wife Michelle of Minnesota, three daughters Stacee Hetzel and husband Keith of Brownwood, Carrie Walters and husband Charlie of Mullin, and Krissi Prince and husband Justin of Early. Grandchildren Alex, Carol Ann, Kalynn, Macee, Reagan, Kenlee, Laney, Tucker, Kamden, Samantha and Jaxon, brother Robert "Bob" Martin III and wife Rita of Michigan, brother Craig Shipp and wife Stella of Conroe, Texas and many adored nieces and nephews and his four-legged best pal Tex.
Scott is preceded in death by his mother Rae Martin-Shipp, father Robert L Martin Jr., sister Donna Holdener, and stepfather Walter Shipp.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 1:30 to 2:30pm prior to the funeral service at 2:30pm at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood. Interment will be private.
