John G Maruschak

John G. Maruschak of Laurel Maryland passed away peacefully on December 4th. He was born to John and Ethel (Cermon) Maruschak on September 1st. 1941 and grew up in Harper Woods Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. John attended Notre Dame high school and graduated from the University of Detroit with a degree in electrical engineering. He had been a coop student at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, an experience that would lead to his remarkable lifelong career with NASA until he retired in 1999. John was part of the team that designed instrumentation for the COBE satellite which measured the background radiation that confirmed the Big Bang theory.
In 1965 John met Margaret Cully. They married in 1966 and four years later settled in Laurel where John lived until his passing.
He was an devoted member of St. Mary of the Mills church and over the years actively volunteered as an usher and aramathian, His love of music led him to join the parish choir, which brought him particular joy.
A devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, John is survived by his wife, his sister Margaret, his three children Ann (Kenneth), John, and Robert (Laura), and five grandsons Evan, Jared, and Miles Pollack and Joseph and Sean Maruschak - all of whom he loved dearly. John delighted in watching his grandchildren grow and develop their own interests and talents.
John's patience, wisdom, humor and natural curiosity will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
