John Francis McAloon age 79, of Snellville, GA., passed away Monday, December 9, 2024. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank McAloon; mother, Evelyn McAloon; stepmother, Emma McAloon; mother-in-law, Jacqueline Yost; father in law, Bill Yost. John is survived by his loving wife, Kelly McAloon; daughter, Michelle Huggins; son in law, Randy Huggins; grandson, Graham Huggins; first cousins, Audrey Rabecs, Ed Neville, Jim Neville, Martin Dwyer, Robert E. Dwyer (Massachusetts), Sr. Loretta Dwyer (Massachusetts), Bernadette Gnudi, Bernanrd Kiesnoski; Marita Howell (Calib), Evelyn Fontanella, Anne Kayes; Marlene Evanko and Mary Kay Maldonato (Scranton, PA); John loved his family and everyone he met.
John F. McAloon was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He grew up on a farm helping his dad where he developed a very strong work ethic. He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School and graduated in 1963. He went on to get his associate degree at Penn State in printing, followed by employment with a printing company for many years. However, John always had a love for antique cars and won several awards for best of show. His cars were also published in several magazines and in a book. He was the past President of Antique Car Club for several years, as well.
He soon became self-employed creating Pennsylvania John's Antiques and Collectibles, which he was passionate about for over 55 years. When people asked him his name, he would always say, Pennsylvania John, the name most people knew him by. John also worked at Great Gatsby's for years in Chamblee, Ga. and traveled to England to buy containers of antiques that were shipped back to the U.S. While buying, selling and delivering antiques, John traveled via Ryder truck throughout the country. Mixing business with pleasure he accomplished visiting all 50 states. During the summer months, Kelly and Michelle would join him on the journey.
John loved his family dearly and was one of the kindest people you would want to know, always helping others out. He never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a big smile.
He moved to Georgia and met Kelly in the late 80's, his soulmate of 36 years. In 1990, their daughter, Michelle, was born. John's life revolved around Michelle; he was such a great Daddy! Michelle was definitely a Daddy's girl. John preferred the mountains over the beach, but since being proudly promoted to Grandpa, he went to the beach twice in 2024 with his grandson, Graham Huggins and family. His grandson stole his heart! There was nothing he wouldn't do for his Grahamy Bear!
He was truly a humble servant and loved serving his church community. You would find John at 8:00 a.m. Mass at St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church where he served as an usher. John loved life and he loved people and always treated everyone with the upmost respect!
The funeral mass to celebrate the life of John McAloon will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Oliver Plunkett Catholic Church in Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 4 PM until 7 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA.
John's final resting place will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Nicholson, PA.
Rest in Peace Beloved, John! We Love You!

John always reserved the first pew at the 9:30 Mass on Sunday for my husband and I. He was there to greet us and open the doors for John to ride his scooter into church. I looked forward to seeing him every Sunday after 8 am Mass. He always greeted us with a smile and asked how we were doing. I will miss him. So sorry for your loss Kelly.

John always put a reserved sign on the first pew for my husband and I. He was there to meet us after the 8 am Mass. He always made an extra effort to hold the door for John as he rode his scooter into church for the 9:30 Mass and always asked how we were. I looked forward to his greeting and smile. We will miss seeing him. So sorry for your loss Kelly.
