John McCabe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, LLC - Pottstown on Jan. 6, 2026.
John (Jack) Leo McCabe, 84, of Bechtelsville, passed away in his home on Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, he was one of three sons of Leo McCabe and Jeanette T. (Rupnik) McCabe Boutilier, and his late step-father Robert D. Boutilier.

He graduated from Milton Hershey School and earned a full scholarship to East Stroudsburg State Teachers College (now East Stroudsburg University). Upon graduating, he accepted a job as English teacher with the Boyertown School District. His entire teaching career was spent with the Boyertown District; in the community he loved. He was a passionate and prolific vegetable gardener, and shared the fruits of his labor with everyone - family, friends, neighbors, nursing homes, churches, businesses.

John is survived by his half-sister Jane D. Roberts of Lansdowne, PA and his nephew Robert Hettel of Linwood, Washington.

In lieu of funeral services, per John's preference, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled.

I taught with John for close to 30 years at Junior High West. I was a pole vault official during his track seasons and I officiated his 7th grade intramural basketball league. John was one of a kind. RIP John.

John and my husband Chet were classmates. I remember John with his Thunderbird convertible and how proud he was of his car. Chet and I will remember John with a smile on our faces. Blessings, MaryLee Bigelow
