John Gabriel McDonough 95, of Naples, FL, formerly of Canton, MA, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2023 with family in Naples, FL.
John was born in Cloughbrack-Clonbur, County Galway, Ireland to Patrick McDonough and Julia Conroy on May 24, 1928. John worked for the Boston Gas Company and retired after 37 years. He enjoyed time with his family, listening to and playing Irish music on his trusty accordion. He loved walks around Castle Island, telling stories about his life in Ireland and was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots.
John loved a great game of "Bid 45". John was extremely proud of his Irish heritage but was overjoyed to become a proud US citizen. John served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. John was a devoted husband and a loving father. A friend to all. John lived a full and robust life and never gave in to hardship. John will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his sons; Sean A and his wife Susannah F of Naples, FL, Brian P of Norwood, MA and Barry J of Las Vegas, NV. His grandchildren; Kerry, Tara, Aedan, Lindsay, Matt, Jack and Riley. His great grandchildren; Ryan, Aaron, Corina, Mia and Stella. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Mary B (Mckeon) and his son Kevin M. The few times I spoke with John, his wife by his side, we talked about Jesus. He is a great guy and I look forward to seeing him and his wonderful wife in heaven.

My first memory of Uncle John is when he was living with us in West Newton when he first arrived in the USA. Mom and John were siblings. Now all the siblings are together. Condolences to his sons and family. Sally McCormack Prickett. Kansas

Dear Family Members One and All, I send you my heartfelt condolences on the death of John who was always so gracious to me and my family on visits to Boston. While he was a great Red Sox fan, he wasn't a baseball player, but I remember on my first vacation after ordination as a priest I went to Boston and I had my bat and glove with me. We went down to Carson Park with John McKeon and I was batting the ball to your father (grandfather) who was shagging flies in center field as best he could. I'll never forget that day!
