John J. McEldowney, 77, of Roanoke, Ill., passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Ill.
He was born on June 14, 1947, in Peoria, Ill., to John W. and Phyllis LaConte McEldowney.
Surviving are his two daughters, Dana Hudnall of Roanoke, and Marrissa Culp of Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Ralph (Penny) McEldowney of Creve Coeur; two grandchildren, Gavin and Ella Culp; one nephew, Ralph McEldowney Jr.; and one niece, Kristina Hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donnie McEldowney; one sister, Phyllis McEldowney; and one brother, William "Billy" McEldowney.
John worked for many years at Charles River Laboratories (SPAFAS) in Roanoke before retiring.
John had a passion for all sports, he loved cheering on the Roanoke-Benson Rockets and his favorite professional sports teams. He was a great bowler and loved to spend time at the local bowling alley.
John had a kind and generous soul. Though he never had much, he was always willing to give what he could to help anyone in need and support the local community.
Cremation rites will be accorded, and a celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m., prior to the services at the funeral home. Private burial of cremains will be held a later date.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Roanoke-Benson Hope Center or to the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Condolences and tributes may be sent to the family at knappjohnsonharris.com.
