John McIntyre Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services - Wilmington on Jan. 9, 2026.
Mr. John David McIntyre, age 66, of Millsboro, Delaware passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the Suites of Accentcare Hospice, Wilmington, Delaware.
John was born on August 18, 1959, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Lavonne Rather and John McIntyre. He graduated from Buffalo Grove High School, Class of 1977, and went on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. John spent the majority of his life in the Chicago suburbs, where he built lasting friendships and memories, before settling in Delaware five years ago.
John dedicated his professional life to the wine and spirits industry, where he built a long and respected career in retail sales. He was the former owner and operator of Top Shelf Wine and Spirits in Elgin, and later served as Manager of the Wine and Spirits Department at Hy-Vee in Sycamore, Illinois. John took great pride in his work and was known for mentoring and training his employees with a strong emphasis on exceptional customer service, genuine hospitality, and treating every guest like family.
John also had a deep love for sports. He was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Bears, rarely missing a game. Sundays were often spent watching NASCAR, a tradition he truly enjoyed. Above all, he cherished time spent with friends and family, creating memories filled with laughter, conversation, and connection.
In addition to his late mother, John was preceded in death by his brother, James McIntyre, and his wife, Karen McIntyre. He is survived by his partner of four years, Sheila Noreiga; his four daughters, Jessica Figlio, Rachel Ringer, Kimberly McIntyre, and Brittany McIntyre; his three Step-children Elyse, Alex, and Andrew; his eight grandchildren, Ryan, Landon, Harley, Gabriel, Michael Jude, Grace, AJ, and Anthony; his father, John McIntyre, husband of Joanne McIntyre; and his brothers, Brian McIntyre and Dan McIntyre, as well as a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Arrangements have been entrusted into the care of Williams Funeral Home and Burial Services.
In accordance with John's wishes, services will be private, but a remembrance gathering will be held at a later date and time in Illinois.
