John David “Zub” McKellips, Jr., 89, of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday morning, April 25, 2024, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
Dave was born March 3, 1935 in Humboldt, the son of John David and Eilleen (Terwilliger) McKellips, Sr. He was raised and educated in Humboldt, played football and baseball and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1953. He enlisted and served in the United States Army and following his discharge returned to Humboldt. On June 2, 1960, he married Marjorie Vinnece. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge and he worked Safeway Grocery in the produce department. In 1984, he moved to Arizona and continued with Safeway as a produce manager. Following his retirement, he returned to Humboldt to be close to family and friends. Zub enjoyed playing cards daily at the VFW and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Dave is survived by his son Dominic (Camille) McKellips of Avondale, Arizona and his daughters Crystal McGaughy and Mary “MyKel” (Andy) McKellips both of Fort Dodge, his grandchildren Nathan, Ashley and Adam, four great-grandchildren and his sister Joline Post of Clarion. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt where there will be Military Honors at 5:00 p.m. and a Parish Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. www.masonlindhart.com
