Randall C. “Randy” Watnem, 82, of Humboldt, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at the West Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Randy was born May 25, 1943 in Algona, Iowa the son of Percy M. and Luella (Mitzven) Watnem. He was raised north of Ottosen and educated in elementary school there. He graduated from Twin Rivers in Bode in 1961 where he excelled and received All State Honors in football and track. When in high school, he met Bonnie L. Schultz while she was visiting relatives in Iowa. After high school he moved to Kissimmee, Florida to be closer to Bonnie and found employment in construction. They were married on February 3, 1963 in Lake Worth, Florida. The couple moved to Ottosen in 1963 and then rural Humboldt where they raised their children. Randy loved racing of all types especially racing Thunder Trucks and watching NASCAR. He was a member of the Jaycees and even ran for public office as a supervisor in district 4 of Humboldt County. Due to health complications in 2015 life slowed down and more time was spent with family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bonnie, daughter Shelly (Terry) Bickel and son Ryan (Nicole) Watnem all of Humboldt, grandchildren, Gracyn, Mack, Mason and Gabby, his brothers, Allan Watnem of Iowa City and Bruce Watnem of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul and sister-in-law’s, Lois Watnem and Dorothea Watnem.
Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 14th at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. In honor of Randy casual or racing attire is preferred. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is handling the arrangements. www.masonlindhart.com
