Roger Eugene McNeill

Roger McNeill, 62 of Humboldt, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 while under Hospice care, at home with Leslie by his side. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday June 7th at the Livermore American Legion, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard and the Otto – Field American Legion Post # 415 of Livermore. Services will be livestreamed via Lentz Funeral Home's website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/roger-mcneill. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Roger Eugene McNeill, son of Ronald and Lilian (Welch) McNeill was born on November 15, 1962 in Guttenberg, IA. Roger was born the third of five sons. Roger attended numerous schools in his youth, graduating from Westmer High School in Joy, IL in 1982 where he made long-lasting friendships that he treasured dearly.
Roger entered the Iowa Army National Guard September 1982 and served 20 years; retiring December 2002. He had several positions in his career. He joined the Combat Engineers in Muscatine, IA. He then transferred to the 734th Maintenance Battalion in Johnston, IA where he was a Battalion Specialist Record Clerk for tools and parts. Roger then transferred to Mason City, IA to the 1133rd Transportation Unit where he worked in the USPFD in charge of military supplies and then onto Fairfield, IA before retiring. It was in Fairfield he met his good buddy Brian and became good friends with him and his family. From there forward, he and Brian were always there for each other. Eventually Roger moved to Fort Dodge, IA where he worked at Smith Way Motor Freight and then Decker Truck Lines. From there, he worked at the Gold Eagle Co-op in Renwick and then worked at the HLT/Yacht Club until he had to step away due to health.
In 2009, he met his future bride of 13 years, Leslie (Schorzmann) Renken and on August 18, 2012, they were united in marriage. On that day, he became a wonderful husband, a caring stepfather and a pride filled grandfather all with those words, "I Do".
Roger was commander of the American Legion Otto Field Post #415 for 12 years until once again he had to step away due to health. Roger was also a Vice Commander for the American Legion 8th District Department of Iowa for many years.
Roger was a very dedicated servant to all military branches. He was incredibly instrumental in the fundraising for the Humboldt County Freedom Rock and took great pride in anything that involved a veteran. He was humbled to have the honor of chaperoning a 94-year-old WWII veteran to Washington, DC for the Brushy Creek Honor Flight in 2011. It was truly one of the things he was most proud to experience.
He was a dedicated member of Team Livermore from its beginning to its end when COVID came and the team dismantled.
Roger and Leslie enjoyed traveling to numerous places including Hawaii and Alaska, being their most memorable.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Ronnie Dean and stepdaughter Jessica Thompson. Roger is survived by his wife Leslie, his stepson Jordan Renken and five wonderful grandchildren Jada, Hunter, Ava, Emma, and Olive, brothers Thomas of Prairie du Chien, WI, Terry of Conway, NC, and Ricky of Prairie du Chien, WI, and a blessing of abundant aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will be missed by those who treasure him and his witty personality.
