John B. McKibben, 80, passed away on February 19, 2025, at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Pinellas Park. Born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, John loved sharing stories of his hometown. He was a proud alumnus of Staunton Military Academy in Virginia and Porter Business College in Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Watson McKibben and Anna Stein McKibben; and his siblings Susan Schwartz and Joseph C. McKibben. John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Dechert McKibben; siblings Tom McKibben and Jane Kaer; daughter Jennifer McKibben Brouillet; son Ryan Joseph McKibben; and grandchildren Ethan, Noah, and Drew McKibben and Tom and Joe Brouillet.
John was a friendly, gentle, fun-loving soul with a passion for food, 60s rock, board games, storytelling, and pop-culture trivia. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and Alaska. He lived in suburban Atlanta for 44 years where he worked as a draftsman at AT&T for 31 years. John was a compassionate family man who regularly checked on friends and loved ones and helped care for both his handicapped sister-in-law as well as his father-in-law. He relocated to Saint Petersburg in 2012 where he happily did word search puzzles, patroned the library, watched "The Price Is Right" daily, attended his grandsons' sporting events, and enjoyed activities at church. He was always up for a laugh and something delicious to eat and will be remembered fondly for his signature half smile.
John's memorial service will be held on March 24 at 10 a.m. at Saint Thomas' Episcopal Church in Saint Petersburg. Another memorial will be held in Alpharetta, GA, at a date TBD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation-Florida Chapter or the Parkinson Association of Central Florida.
