CUMBERLAND

John Edward McVeigh, 78, of Cumberland, R.I., passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday September 13, 2025.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Alice (Antone) McVeigh and Edward McVeigh.

He was the loving father of Sean McVeigh (Mary) of Cumberland, Heather McVeigh-Heroux (Jon) of Lincoln, John McVeigh (Lauren) of Brooklyn, CT, and Gavin McVeigh (Lauren) of Franklin, MA. In addition to his children, he leaves behind his brother Edward McVeigh (Arlene) of Cumberland and his cousin, George David (Donna) of Wakefield. John is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

John received his undergraduate degree from Bryant College and Masters degree from Providence College. He was an elite basketball player earning many accolades including being inducted into the Bryant University Basketball Hall of Fame.

He was a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach in the Cumberland School Department for over 30 years.

John enjoyed watching New England sports, listening to music, enjoying weekly breakfast dates with friends, and spending time with his dog, Mac. His services will be private.

His funeral will be private.
