John Charles Meade, 79, of Mendon died peacefully in the presence of his family October 15 at his home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Phyllis (Howard) Meade for the past 45 years.
Born in Attleboro, November 5, 1945, the son of the late Edward and Ida (Leino) Meade, John was raised in Attleboro and Plainville and lived in Walpole for many years before moving to Mendon in 1997.
A mechanical engineer, John had worked for several surgical medical device companies as well as starting up his own companies to design and manufacture surgical medical devices.
A devout Christian, John was a faithful churchman, who also preached the gospel of Christ in the open air.
John served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of E-4 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John Meade and his wife Annie of Kansas City, Missouri, Hannah Denietolis and her husband Bruce of Bellingham, Luke Meade and his wife Sara of Mendon, and Samuel Meade of Louisville, Kentucky.
He is also survived by his brother Edward Meade of Weymouth.
John is also survived by his eleven grandchildren: Charis, Maggie, Emma June, Peter, Grace, Joshua, Anthony-John, Luciana, Jack, Audrey, and Penelope.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18 in Crossway Church, 282 Summer Street, Franklin at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in is memory to Impact Youth Camp (a ministry of Sovereign Grace Chapel in Southbridge, MA), a summer camp for gospel proclaiming ministry.
Arrangements are under the care of the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (ginleyfuneralhomes.com).
