Gaylord Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service - GaylordJohn J. Mertes Jr., 64 of Frederic, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at home, just three days shy of his birthday.
John lived in Frederic for most of his life. He attended C.O.O.R. for his schooling and proudly graduated in 1978. He loved to listen to music, go on car rides and eat pizza. John was a special person to his whole family. Everyone was very proud of him. The way John lived his life was eye opening to many, and it was a privilege for those who go to know him.
He is survived by his four siblings, Barbara Henry, Lisa (Jeff) Nisch, Barry Mertes and Richard (Cindy) Mertes; his biological mother, Beryl Kammer; 2 nieces, 2 nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Mertes Sr., and his step-mother, Judy Mertes.
A memorial service will take place 2:00 PM Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Frederic Township Hall, 6470 Manistee Street, Frederic, MI.
