Funeral services for John Houston Miles, 65, will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Cotton Valley Cemetery, in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tommy Rush.
John was born on March 2, 1959 to John Harold Miles and Naomi Christine Cash Miles in Jonesboro Hodge, Louisiana, and passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024 in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Shortly after birth, his father, who was in The United States Navy, received orders and moved his family to Hawaii. He lived there until the age of five. His father retired from the Navy and moved the family to Minden, Louisiana. John grew up in Minden and lived three houses down from Taryn’s aunt, but it was years before he would meet Taryn.
He served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1978 to 1981 as an Inventory Management Specialist. He was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana, and overseas at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, England. John was a driver for the Bossier Parish School Board during his retirement.
John loved to watch the LSU Tigers, listen to music, ride the golf cart, and spend time with family and friends. He found great joy in RVing and playing dominoes with his RV friends.
In the last six months, he went through many health challenges, including a leg amputation, but he always maintained his “Can do it” attitude. While recovering from his amputation, he enjoyed posting about his love for the Lord and cat jokes on Facebook. He had quite a passion for both. He wanted all cats to find homes and all people to find their home in Jesus. He loved to tease anyone and found great humor in it. He had an infectious laugh and those close to him loved to hear and made anyone around him join in the laughter. His wish would be for everyone to show kindness and love in a world that truly needs it.
John is survived by his wife, Taryn; daughters, Kealey Barnes and Lindsey McCormick; stepsons, Wes and Kyle Colwell, and 11 grandchildren with one on the way.
Serving John as honorary pallbearers will be Wes Colwell, Kyle Colwell, Mason Colwell, Steve Milam, John Dykes, Davis Gordy, Dawson Beard and Craig Griffith.
