John Lynn Miles, age 72 of Fayetteville, NC died peacefully Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. John was born in Lockport, New York on August 18,1953 to Wilfred Grant Miles and Mary Elizabeth Bisto Miles. John went to Newfane High School where he participated in track and basketball. He graduated in 1971 and moved to Greenville, NC where he attended East Carolina University.

John worked with many amazing associates and met thousands of loyal and wonderful customers. After leaving the restaurant business he began a short career with Cumberland County School System as a teacher assistant and media clerk. He often said many days it didn’t seem like a job. After retirement John did what he loved best…fishing, camping, spending time with family, watching Duke and Bu alo Bills games and working in his vegetable garden. John also participated in the “Walk for Hope Foundation” in Raleigh every year, founded by the Eure family.
John was a devout Christian and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He loved his church family very much. His faith in God guided him through his life and his battle with cancer. He never lost his sense of humor and knew he was in God’s hands the whole time. John is preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Mary Miles and grandson, Edward Oxendine Jr. He is survived by his beloved partner of 32 years, Ruby Blackwell; Brother, Dana Miles, Sister, Mary Newman (Steve), Daughters, Chris King (Mike), Stephanie Csonka (Mike), Melissa Oxendine (Ed).
