John A. Minahan, a cherished resident of Manomet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14th, at B.I.D. Hospital in Plymouth. He was the beloved husband of Carol A. (Armstrong) Minahan, with whom he shared a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
Born on September 4, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, John was the son of the late John A. and Lucy (Hammond) Minahan. He was educated in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth-Carver High School. A lifelong resident of the Manomet section of Plymouth, John dedicated his life to his family and community, where he built a successful career as a Tile and Carpet Installer, known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his work.
John was a passionate Boston sports fan, whose enthusiasm for his teams was matched only by his love for the great outdoors. He found joy in tending to his garden and relished the peaceful moments spent ice fishing on the serene ponds of Plymouth. His generous spirit was evident in his willingness to help others, never looking for praise, just quietly offering guidance and support to those in need. Mornings were often spent enjoying coffee with friends at Gellar's in Manomet, where his warm smile and sharp wit made him a beloved figure in the community. We carry forward his love, wisdom and spirit in our hearts.
In addition to his devoted wife, Carol, John is survived by his children: John W. Minahan of Manomet, Mark T. Minahan and his wife Theresa Cushing of Centerville, Charles S. Minahan of Manomet, Stephanie A. Flanagan and her husband Michael of Yarmouth, and Diane Halnen and her husband Robert of Manomet. He was also the father of the late Jennifer Minahan and Christine Powers. John was a proud brother to Stewart Minahan of North Carolina, Dr. Mark Minahan of New Hampshire, and Thomas Minahan of Plymouth. He leaves behind a legacy of love as a cherished grandfather to Shelby Campbell, Kayla McGrady, Joshua Halnen, Taryn Minahan, Justin Minahan, Danielle Halnen, Nicholas Minahan, Adam Minahan, Grady Minahan, and Claire Minahan, as well as a great-grandfather to Kenzie Carroll and Anthony Carroll. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, located at 619 State Rd., Plymouth (Manomet), on Monday, September 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. John will be cremated at Vine Hills Crematory in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the
