James Cushing Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cartmell-Davis Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. - Manomet on Mar. 11, 2026.
James J. "Jimmy" Cushing, age 47, of Plymouth, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth. He was the beloved husband and soulmate of Megan (Flora) Cushing and the son of Edward Cushing of Plymouth and the late Mary (Bauer) Cushing.

Born in Weymouth on August 6, 1978, Jimmy graduated from Plymouth South High School, where he studied plumbing. He gained experience and knowledge at a young age and obtained his CDL Class B license. He went on to build his career working with septic systems for Wind River Environmental.

A kind, compassionate, and generous man, Jimmy was deeply devoted to his wife and daughters and shared a bond with his girls and wife unlike any other. He had the best of both worlds in one house-his dad (his best friend and rock) on one side, and the love of his life and his two beautiful daughters on the other. His approach to life, especially over the last year, seemed simply to enjoy every minute, good or bad, with his girls and his dad. They were each other's laughter and comfort through tears. He could finish their sentences or catch right on to some silly song the girls or Megan would make up. Jimmy had the strength of heart to protect them from anything, because his love was so fierce for them, as theirs was for him. They know he will continue to protect them until they meet again.

He was always so thankful to have such a great group of friends he still knew from childhood. Those friendships remained special to him his whole life. Jimmy loved going for drives in his white Dodge Durango, running errands, playing horseshoes and cornhole, enjoying beach days, or grilling dinner. Above all, he enjoyed connecting with people, working hard, and getting home to his girls.

An early riser, Jimmy especially loved summertime, particularly spending time at the beach. He would be out of the house early, packing the car, getting things ready, and letting his girls "take their time" getting themselves packed up… which very well could mean him trying not to watch the tornado of bathing suits and flip-flops in the whirlwind of "Is that mine?" Dada just rolled with it, always keeping his cool and his girls happy-just one of his many superpowers.

He was an avid sports fan with a special love for the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. Jimmy also had a well-known sweet tooth, especially enjoying ice cream and candy bars such as Snickers, PayDay, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Besides his loving wife Megan and his father Edward, Jimmy will be missed so very much by his two daughters, the light in his beautiful blue eyes, Brynn and Bria Cushing of Plymouth; his sister, Michele Gagnon and her husband Allan of Plymouth; his brother, Eddie Cushing and his wife Lucy of Bradenton; his sister-in-law Jill Cushing Olah of Bradenton; and his brother-in-law John Bastoni of Wareham.

He also leaves his mother-in-law, Beverly Flora. He was the brother-in-law of Scott and Laura Flora, and Amy and Bill TenBerge. He was a well-loved nephew of his great-aunt Carolyn Evans, Aunt Barbara, and Aunt Gail.

Jimmy was the proud uncle of Lily, Phoebe, Ivy, Callie, Trace, Eamon, and Katie Cushing; Ethan, Faye, Lily, Sammy, and Taylor; and shared a deep older-brother relationship with his nephews Peter (along with Sarah) and Andrew. He was also Molly's godfather, and they shared a very special bond. Jimmy loved and cared for her as if she were his own.

He was also the great-uncle of Violet, Eamon "Leo," Gabrielle, Leo, Madison, and Mason. Jimmy was the proud godfather of Molly Bastoni and Eamon Cushing.

Visitation with the Cushing family will be held on Friday (because Jimmy loved Fridays), March 20, 2026, at Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, followed by a service at 6:30 PM.
