John Mitchell Redden, Jr., age 92, of Dysartsville, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, August 5th, 2025. A native of Hinton, West Virginia and a resident of Bakersville since the 1970's, he was a son of the late John Mitchell and Grace Bragg Redden. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 wonderful years, Estelle Willis Redden; and siblings: Shirley, Ray, Imajean and Mary Katherine.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Hawaii where he was assigned to communications. Upon discharge, he became an LPN and worked at several Maryland State Hospitals. He then started working in maintenance there. When he decided to move back to North Carolina, he started his own business, specializing in maintenance, electrical, plumbing, heating and air. If John was well known for anything, it was being such a dedicated hard worker. Work was his hobby, and he continued working until the age of 89. One of the things he enjoyed was reading. He was a stern man, dedicated to working hard to provide for his wife and children, but his soft moments were displayed to them. He was always there to help his children whom he loved very much, as well as his grandchildren, but he absolutely cherished his wife, Estelle, and spent their 66 years together doing everything he could for her. He was dearly loved and will be missed by so many of his friends and family.

Left to cherish his memory are his adored children: Doug Redden (Daphne) of Westminster, SC, Regina Redden of Dysartsville, and Tommy Redden (Carolyn) of Bakersville; and a brother, Roger Redden of Tucson, Arizona; two grandchildren: Ashley Redden and Tammy Putman (Philip); four great-grandchildren: Jordan Putman (Mya), Abby Putman (Jacob), Lucas Ray and Lilly Ray; and two great, great-grandchildren: Oakland Putman and Tatum Whitson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for a later date.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of Amorem Palliative Care and Hospice for the wonderful care given to John.
