Maud Huskins Murphy, age 96, of the Busick Community, went to her Heavenly home on Monday, August 11th,2025 at The Greens at Spruce Pine. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Mart and Dora Young Huskins. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years: Vernie Murphy; a sister, Dollie Wilson, and 4 brothers: Homer, Jack, Claude, and infant brother, Clayton Huskins; son, Gary Murphy and his first wife, Betty Jean Howell Murphy; son-in-law, Ricky Howell; granddaughter, Amanda Howell Autrey; and brother-in-law, Ike Frye.

Maud was a devout Christian who loved her church and church family. She was the oldest living member of Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church. She was a dedicated prayer warrior, spending her days and nights praying for everyone she knew. She was a homemaker whose greatest joy came from taking care of her family. She was always happy when she was cooking meals for family and friends, and her family was at her house after church for her delicious Sunday dinners she prepared each week when her health permitted. She was a talented quilter, and made a quilt for every member of her family. Maud had a very tight-knit family who lived next door to one another, and her house was always full of love and laughter, and there was a smile on her face each time her children and grandchildren were there to spend time with her. She was a pillar of her church and community, and had an incredible impact on all those her knew her. Her presence will be missed by so many.

Left to cherish her memory are her four daughters: Diane Blevins (Larry), Betty Sue Jones (Tim), Cathy Chandler (John), and Cindy Stevenson (Brian), all of Busick; daughter-in-law, Jan Murphy; 9 grandchildren and 5 step-grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandchild; a sister, Jewell Frye; two sisters-in-law: Ruby Hall and Maryann Huskins; and special nephew, David Huskins. She is survived as well by numerous extended family members.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13th at the Robinson Cemetery on Rock Creek Road in Busick. Rev. Forrest Westall will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Mitchell Baptist Church at 250 Dovers Branch Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.

The family would like to express their gratitude and extend special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Blue Ridge, as well as The Greens at Spruce Pine, whom Maud thought of as her family, for the love and wonderful care given to her.
