EARLY LIFE
On September 28, 1983, an amazing baby boy was born in Nyandarua as the firstborn of Rose Wanja Mugo and, the late Thompson Mugo Njuguna. As a young boy, John grew up to be the joy of the family and loved by many due to his kindness and infectious love, regardless of who he encountered. John is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Wanjiru Mugo, and Florence Muthoni Mugo. He was a loving uncle to Tom Allan Mugo. He was a nephew of the late Gladys, Mr. Fredrick, and Alice; the late Nima; the late Margret; Mrs. Charity; Mrs. Mercy; and Mr. Kimani; and a cousin to many. His family meant a lot to him, and he loved them dearly.
EDUCATION
His education journey started at Elite Kindergarten, Nyahururu, in 1987. He later joined Consolata Primary School in 1990 and, then he transferred to Highway Primary School in 1996, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 1998 and performed well.
Due to his impressive performance, he was selected to join St Mary's Boys Secondary School, Nyeri, in 1999, where he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2002 and excelled well enough to qualify for university acceptance to proceed with his studies. His quest for knowledge continued, and he joined Egerton University, Njoro in 2004, where he studied for a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Statistics.
While still studying in Egerton, John successfully qualified for the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, commonly known as "Green Card Lottery," to become a permanent resident in the USA, where he relocated from Kenya. Due to his selflessness, caring, and compassion for those in need, he felt the desire to study something that would have an impact on his life, family, and the community. While in the USA, he enrolled at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia and studied for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and graduated in May 2013. Thereafter, he attained a certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), which is a Nursing excellence certification that confirms that John had mastered the skills and knowledge to effectively care for the sickest patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU).
His love for education and to gain more knowledge to better care for his patients did not stop there, as he was recently enrolled at Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania for a Doctor of Science Degree in Nursing until his demise.
CAREER
John was an accomplished, experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with a broad wealth of knowledge and skills in different settings of Nursing, such as Critical Care Nursing, Cardiac Intensive Care Nursing, Neurocritical Care Nursing, among many other Nursing specialties. John lived in
Atlanta, Georgia, and he traveled for work assignments in Nursing underserved hospitals in various cities and states within the USA. He was a big advocate for his patients, and he showed empathy, love, and compassion to those entrusted to his care. His patients and colleagues can attest that John was an exceptionally professional and caring RN.
CHRISTIAN LIFE
John was brought up in a Christian family and he was baptized as a small child in 1984 at PCEA Church, Nyahururu. He was later confirmed in 1998 at Mairoinya PCEA Church. John was an active member of the youth group. He grew up in the Anglican Church of Kenya.
HIS DEATH
John passed away peacefully in his sleep while in
Queens, New York, on December 25, 2023, at the age of 40. John was a cheerful, loving, hardworking, and gentle soul. John's unwavering love and deep commitment to his family, friends, and colleagues were unmatched.
The Lord gave us John Njuguna Mugo, and the Lord has taken him.
Rest in eternal peace, John, till we meet again.
