Ingram Funeral HomeJohn Edward Munroe, Jr., lovingly known as Johnny, drifted into peaceful rest on October 23, 2025. Johnny was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, while his family was stationed there. From there to Chattanooga, Ireland to Canada, and eventually New York to Georgia, he collected stories, friends, and more than a few questionable jokes. While living in Atlanta, he met the love of his life, Jan. Their hearts were a match and together through every twist and turn, they shared 44 years of love, laughter, and adventure. Johnny was known for his heart of gold, dark humor, stubborn resilience, and uncanny ability to laugh through anything. Johnny faced life’s blows with a grin and Monty Python’s “‘tis but a scratch” mindset. He was a husband who adored his wife beyond measure, a dad and grandpa who taught his kids and grandkids the importance of love, hard work, good humor, and not sweating the small stuff — unless it was who ate the last brownie or finished off the Parmesan cheese. We will remember him dancing in the kitchen, not wheeling over toes. We will remember him being our first good morning and wake-up alarm. We will remember him capturing all of our moments with a photograph. We will remember him as the life—and the punchline—of the party.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Jan Munroe; his children, Jill Gray (Scott) and Adam Munroe; his grandchildren, Skylar, Sadie, and Ronin; his sister, Alena Wills; his mother-in-law, Betty McClendon; sister-in-laws Judy McGhee (George) and Joy Renninger (Bill); and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. He now joins his parents, John and Virginia Munroe; father-in-law Jerry McClendon; and brother-in-law Mickey Wills.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at The Retreat at Twin Lakes, 4430 Twin Lakes Road, Cumming, GA 30040, from 10 am-12 pm. Guests are encouraged to come in casual attire (jeans) to share stories, jokes, and snacks. Johnny lived by acts of kindness. He believed that one act of kindness could spark many more. Hence, in lieu of flowers, please consider an act of “paying it forward”—a good deed for someone without expecting anything in return in hopes they will pass it along to someone else in the future. We’ll forever miss his one-liners, his infectious laugh, and his uncanny ability to make inappropriate jokes at exactly the wrong (and somehow right) time. Johnny may have taken his final nap, but he lives on in every laugh he inspired and every heart he touched.
