John Frank Munt

Pittsford - 11/27/1928-6/8/2022. John (Jack) Frank Munt was the first born son of Helen and Edward Munt of LeRoy, NY. He is predeceased by sisters, Gloria (Richard) Hoe, Mary Jane (Paul) Pelow and brother, Fred (Marge) Munt. Surviving brothers are David (Wanda) Munt of Canandaigua and Lawrence Munt of Caledonia.
Dolores Krause of Byron became his wife on March 8, 1952 and he credits her with "being his angel" and really changing his life. Together they raised three children: Christine Brush, mother of Jared & Karli; John (Leslie) Munt, parents to Natalie (Josh) Bornemann, Michele Darchuck, John Munt Jr, Joseph Munt and Marcie (Que'Drell) Jackson; and Jane Munt, mother of Bethany (Justin) Stevens. His former son in law, Douglas (Linda) Brush also held a special place in his life. He was known as Bompa to his 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Jack was a veteran of both the US Navy and US Army before marrying Dolores. The Korean conflict was going on at the time of his enlistment. During his 4 years in the Navy he was a crew member of the USS Damato. He returned to LeRoy for a short time and then joined the US Army where he served as a Paratrooper and small arms repairman. He and Dolores enjoyed many years of attending USS Damato reunions all over the United States. Home was always their favorite place and over 20 years on 'the farm" in Mendon was a blessing.
Dolores' passing on 2/2/2020 left a hole in his heart and a void in his life. During their 67 plus years together they were a true team and the heart of their family. Their tenacity and ability to overcome any challenge was an inspiration. Jack had many skills and his employment roster included: State Trooper, long haul trucker, gas station owner, mechanic, Town Judge, and most recently farmer.
The family is planning to honor Jack with a ceremony at the North Byron Cemetery on Friday, July 22nd. There will also be an open house celebration of his life at Hidden Springs Farm in Mendon on Saturday July 23rd. All are welcome to eat, drink and share their memories of Jack & Dolores with us.
