John N. Myers, age 80, of State Route 96A, died on Thursday, August 7, 2025, following a brief illness.
John was born on May 1, 1945, in Seneca Falls, the youngest son of the late Newton C. and Josephine (nee Limner) Myers. He and had a long career at Willard Psychiatric Center, eventually retiring as a groundskeeper at Elmira Psychiatric Center after 36 years of state service.
John was married to Cindy Leifheit in 1978, and adopted her son, Joshua, as an infant and together they made their home in Ovid. He had been a member of the Ovid Fire Department for over 35 years and proudly served his community. Cindy and John were faithful members of Christ Church in Sheldrake, they loved camping at Spruce Row and their beloved Cayuga Lake.
John is survived by his brother, William “Bill” (Pat) Myers of The Villages, FL and many nieces and nephews in addition to Cindy’s family. John was preceded in death by his son, Joshua in 1998 and Cindy in 2024.
A Memorial Service will be held at Covert Funeral Home at 11:00am on Friday, September 12, 2025, officiated by Pastor Rob Foote, a reception will then follow at the Ovid Fire Department.
