John H. Pegher

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, John H. Pegher, age 76, of Wexford succombed to a long term cardiac event. Beloved husband for 25 years of Mary Fawcett Pegher; father of Lucy (Ron) Panza, Terry (Sean) Ehrman, Cetta (Matt) Richards, and Kim (Sean) Grillo; grandfather of Cetta, Ava, Christian, Julia, Emily, Talia, and Bella, Jacob, Joslyn.

John worked at Duquesne Light for 35 years as an electrician starting as a linesman and finishing his career as an Underground Supervisor. He never waivered from his dedication to keeping the lights on in Pittsburgh. John was fearless, a necessary trait in a dangerous job.

John loved gardening. He created an oasis, existing of about 13 small gardens. Every garden center within 25 miles made sure they carried the top grades of flowers and soils he would request. At times, John would drive to the Amish and come home with a truck packed with flats of flowers. He also loved woodworking and could build any project without plans. In fact, his pieces were built to stand the test of time and beyond.

But closest to his heart was family. Nothing brought him more joy than Christmas with a packed house. His light displays would rival the Griswold decorations.

But John was also one of the last of his kind, descendent of the original Wexford Homesteaders. He was one of the hardest working men and enjoyed a cold beer with friends when the day was done. There was no guessing how he felt, you knew because he pulled no punches. Anyone lucky enough to be a friend was in for a lifelong adventure. And you better like country and western music and tolerate a small poodle named Buddy that hunkered under his shadow for protection. Or you could be introduced to his version of "Boot Scoot Boogie". We'll miss that lovely man who stood proud and didn't back down.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026 and 12 noon until the time of the Blessing Service at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Simons Funeral Home, Inc., 7720 Perry Hwy.
