John Edwin Porter Jr.

John Edwin Porter, Jr., age 81, of Shelbyville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2026. John lived a life marked by faith, service, and love for others. He spent much of his professional career in the plastic packaging sales industry and later served as a TSA Supervisor. Above all, John was a devoted follower of Christ. He was a faithful member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church in Louisville and gave generously of his time serving others. His volunteer work included Lifebridge, The Welcome Center at Southeast Christian Church, and active involvement with Night to Shine, where his servant's heart and joyful spirit were evident to all who knew him.

John deeply valued time with family and cherished traveling during the winter months, often spending time in the southern states near the beach-places that brought him rest, reflection, and gratitude for God's creation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Porter, Sr. and Sara W. Porter, and by his beloved wife, Janet Porter, whom he loved dearly. John is survived by his daughters, Kristin Porter of Atlanta, Georgia, and Stephanie Foreman (Wayne) of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Katherine Foreman, Johnathon Foreman (Kat), and Allison Foreman, who were a great source of joy and pride; his brother, Robert Porter (Stasia) of South Carolina; and his sister, Betsy Hottinger of Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Shannon Funeral Home, with Pastor Jeremy Pellum officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Missions at Hurstbourne Baptist Church, 8800 Hurstbourne Lane, Louisville, KY 40022, continuing John's legacy of faith and service.
