John 'Johnny' Allen Preece unexpectedly passed away on July 3rd, 2024. He was 84 years old.
Born April 16th, 1940 in Danbury, Connecticut to Charlotte O'Flaherty and Frederick Preece, he was one of six siblings, and later moved down to South Miami, Florida.
Upon completing his educational studies, John joined the United States Air Force and after his service went to work for renown Pan American Airways. He then moved on and continued his vocational education to become a Firefighter for the City of Hollywood, Florida. During his 30 year tenure, John advanced his ranks up to the position of Captain, and upon retiring with honors of Battalion Chief.
An avid sportsman all his life, retirement years brought him to Jensen Beach, Florida where he thoroughly enjoyed life by the sea. John truly loved to travel all over the US and this included many visits to his beloved, Florida Keys.
Additional family members who will dearly miss him include his Daughter, Theresa Opitz (South Carolina), Son, John Preece (New York), Son-In- Law, Stefan Opitz (South Carolina), Granddaughter, Lauren Opitz (Florida), and his youngest Brother, Tommy Preece (Florida).
Celebration of life will take place at Saint Martin de Porres Catholic Church, Jensen Beach, Florida on July 16th at 11 am with prior visitation at Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home, Stuart, Florida from 8:30-10 am.
Internment will take place at Forest Lawn East Cemetery in Matthews, North Carolina in the Saint Matthew Gardens on July 19th at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the Family kindly requests you donate to: The Everglades Foundation, https://www.evergladesfoundation.org/donate
This will help continue to preserve and protect the largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the United States.
