John Thomas Pressler, 76, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. He was born on December 31, 1948, in Dyersburg. He was the second child of the late Homer Thomas and Jane Armstrong Pressler. John Thomas had three passions, love for his family, enjoying his work, and is perhaps one of the world's greatest fans of the legendary giants of rock 'n' roll, The Rolling Stones. Next among his passions would be his love for his community. He is a past member of the Dyersburg Jaycees, Dyersburg Kiwanis Club, Dyersburg Municipal-Regional Planning Commission and the property and parish committee of First United Methodist Church where he has been a life-time member. John Thomas proudly served his county in the Army National Guard for six years.
John Thomas graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1967. Following high school, he enrolled at Westminster College and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He transferred to Lambuth College in Jackson where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. He studied real estate at Memphis State University and obtained his real estate broker's license upon his return to Dyersburg. He formed his own company in Dyersburg, buying and selling property, managing rental housing and appraisals for local institutions and individuals. He also operated a car wash and coin-operated laundry plus a mini-storage unit.
He was quoted as saying, "To fully appreciate and love your kids, you have got to keep a little bit of a kid in your own heart. Live your life so that when you are gone, you have left behind a legacy of love and respect for your children to carry on."
The centerpiece of his life is with his family who survives him, his wife Linda Hooton Pressler; his daughter, Katherine "Kat" Pressler of New Martinsville, WV; his son, John Addison Pressler and Carrie Doss of Tavernier, FL; his precious granddaughter, Raven Rose "Rosie"; his sister-in-law, Linda and Joe Garcia and family; his sister -in-law, Sylvia Williams and family; his brother-in-law, Ed Bator and family; his cousin Johnny and Marilyn Armstrong and family; and the Pressler family in Clarksville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Jane Pressler Bator.
Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 30, 2025, in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 Noon until service time at the church.
The family requests memorials be directed to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.
Cremation services are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home. We are privileged and honored to serve the Pressler family. You may share your condolences and your memories with the family at www.curryfuneral.com.
