John R. Erd

John Robert Erd, a devoted father, cherished friend, and proud Army veteran, passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 88 in Margate, Florida. Born in Manhattan, New York, on August 8, 1936, he was the beloved son of Joseph and Mary (Kashticky) Erd. John graduated from Regis High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance from Dominican College.
John's life was defined by love for his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Virginia (Bill) Harvey, and son, John (Irma) Erd. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 60 years, Adrienne Erd (née Bennett), his brother, Edward (Patricia) Erd, and his niece, Ellen Marie.
John dedicated part of his career to serving others as a firefighter with the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY), the largest fire department in the country. He later worked at Glenshaw Glass Company in Orangeburg, New York, and the United States Post Office in Blauvelt, New York.
An active and engaged member of his community, John was a lifetime member of the Pearl River Elks and a proud member of the American Legion. In his later years, he found joy as a snowbird at Oriole Gardens III in Margate, Florida, where he reconnected with childhood friends and created lasting memories.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2–6 PM at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in Pearl River, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 31, at 10 AM at St. Catharine's Church in Blauvelt, New York, Burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont, NY.
John will be deeply missed but forever remembered for always wearing a smile on and his unwavering love and kindness,
