John Ray Jr., 88, of Broadalbin, NY, formerly of Amsterdam, NY, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam on July 21, 1937, he was the youngest child of the late John and Frances (Vergona) Ray. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Ray and Josephine Fabozzi.
John was a proud graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1956. A hardworking and determined man, he was self-employed for many years and became well known throughout the community for operating his U-Haul business. Through dedication and perseverance, he built a respected livelihood and formed many lasting friendships along the way. He retired in 2013.
John was a devoted husband and family man who took great pride in those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Gloria Ricciardi Ray. He leaves behind his four children: Diane (Terry) Elliott of Deerfield Beach, FL; John F. Ray Sr. (Tracey) of Perth; Marie McNeil of Amsterdam; and Susan Ray of Broadalbin. He is also survived by his two stepsons, Joseph DiLorenzo of Schenectady and Anthony DiLorenzo of Clifton Park; several cherished grandchildren; great grandchildren and a niece
John had a lifelong love of cars and enjoyed attending car shows whenever possible. At one time, he proudly owned both a 1955 and a 1957 Thunderbird — a reflection of his appreciation for classic craftsmanship and style. He also had a special love for animals and always kept poodles as part of his home. His beloved dogs, Rosie and Daisy, were faithful companions who brought him comfort and joy over the years. John was a member of the Scotia-Glenville Elks Lodge #2759.
