John S. Rei Jr., 79, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary (Hughes) Rei. They have been married for the past 63 years.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Joao E. and Leontina (Miquel) Rei. John resided in Cumberland for the past 50 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.
John enjoyed golfing, classic cars and classic car shows, music, working in the yard and most of all spending time with his family. He never missed an opportunity to laugh and play a good joke on his grandchildren.
John was employed at the Yellow Freight with the Teamsters Union Local 251, East Providence, where he received multiple awards for service and safety until his retirement. He was previously a member of the Teamsters Union Local 59.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, Linda M. (Rei) Brown of Cumberland, John S. Rei III of Cumberland and Steve J. Rei and his wife Catherine of Narragansett, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, along with his best friend of over 50 years Dennis Jancef. He was also the brother of the late Albert Rei.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to John's Life Celebration to be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, from 4 PM to 7 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street Providence, RI 02904.
