Dr. John A. Richert "Jack" passed away in Keene Valley on Wednesday, January 1. He was 96 years old.
He was born in 1928 in Buffalo NY to Mary and Luceille Richert, and he had two brothers and a sister.
Jack served in the US Navy. He was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in Buffalo NY for rowing, football, basketball and baseball.
After marrying, he lived in Germany for 7 years while teaching English and Theater at a military base with his wife, Betty Richert. She taught art.
Jack's love for the theater led to becoming an awarded actor in Buffalo theater circles, and memorialized at Casting Hall at Buffalo State University.
He was granted a full Football Scholarship to Boston University, and also earned multiple advanced degrees in higher education. Jack served as the Associate Dean at SUNY Buffalo Medical School, and mentored Medical Students for over 30 years. He was dedicated to public higher education.
Jack was also the loving husband to his wife of 65 years. They were best friends, a strong team, and traveled the world together. Their love produced a daughter, Betsy Richert of Keene, NY, and helped to foster in her a fierce independence and self-reliance that ultimately resulted in the creation and ownership of Betsy's successful environmental consulting business, and a lifetime of competitive athletics.
Betty Richert pre-deceased her husband on January 3, 2021 in Keene, NY. Both Betty and Jack were born on November 21. Now they are reunited.
There will be no funeral services but a reception may follow in Keene Valley, NY.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his honor to High Peaks Hospice, the Westport SPCA, or Little Peaks Preschool.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru, 518-643-9055.
