John "Dave" David Roark, age 71, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on July 13, 1953 in Jefferson City, Missouri to the late William "Bill" Roark and the late Nancy (Schwaller) Northcutt.
Dave was united in marriage to Julie Hauck on May 26, 2007.
Born and raised in Jefferson City, Dave attended Jefferson City High School, enlisting in the United States ARMY prior to earning his diploma. He served his country during the Vietnam War and was a decorated soldier. Dave was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, and Army Commendation Medal for his courageous service.
Once enlisted in the ARMY, Dave earned his GED. In 2021 he was honored and received his official 1971 high school diploma from Jefferson City High School. He pursued higher education at Lincoln University, earning a Bachelor of Science and Sociology in 1996, followed by a Master's of Education in 2001.
Dave was a life member of the VFW Post 2657 and the Freedom of Road Riders Local 10. He held a deep commitment to his country, his comrades, and his community. He enjoyed reconnecting with his brothers from Dirty Delta 2/17th Cavalry, 101st Airborne, attending reunions where the bonds of brotherhood were never forgotten.
Dave was a man who gave freely of his time and talents. Whether it was lending a hand to local organizations, volunteering at community events, or simply helping a neighbor in need, he never hesitated when asked. Dave's legacy is one of service, sacrifice, and selflessness. He will be remembered not only for his time in uniform but also for the generosity and kindness he shared with all who knew him.
Those that remain to cherish Dave's memory are, his wife Julie; sons, Patrick Roark, Andrew Roark, J.D. Roark; stepson, Ben Hauck (Paxton); daughter, Shannon Fewins (Reece); step daughter, Mary Gilbert; brother, Jim Roark; sister, Roberta Northcutt (Mike Spencer); eight grandchildren, Taylor, Bennett, Iris, Sawyer, Bryson, Avery, Baylor Jean, Cayden, along with several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Roark.
Graveside services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 12:00 PM, with full military honors.
